Maybe some good news in the offing for Chile

"Chile's hard-right holds the upper hand as presidential election goes to a runoff".

The Communist candidate, Jeanette Jara, scored the highest percentage of votes in the first round of the presidential contest, with close to 27% of votes cast; however, the right was split by the presence of several conservative and libertarian candidates, and José Antonio Kast (a strongly pro-Trump figure), who pulled in nearly 24% of the vote, will go up against Jara head to head. Conservative candidates received 70% of votes cast, so it appears clear that Chile is ready to dump its most recent experiment with a leftist government, represented by the current president, socialist Gabriel Boric (a student activist who dropped out of law school and went straight into politics).
