Is it time to put NATO in the attic next to the Holy Roman Empire and the League of Nations?

"Is NATO really an alliance anymore?"

I have mixed feelings about whether we should withdraw, but they're not as mixed as they used to be; if Europe is going to abandon its western ideals and voluntarily join the Ummah, then I don't care what happens to it.

  1. A European war will no longer involve the whole world, that's why our presence there and in NATO was important.
Their pols are busy sucking up to murderous commie tyrants and jihadi-states and will bone us in a heartbeat.
My only firm positions on EUnuchstan are that I'd like to keep Italy free and that the next country to take France has to keep it.
Other than that? Why support failed states that imprison folks for wrongthink?

When the USSR imploded I wondered what would happen to NATO. Logically, as the rationale for it had vanished NATO should too, right?

Nope. I've read Parkinson's Law and know better. Best case scenario might be expanding the alliance to include the former Warsaw Pact nations, since getting all of Europe into an alliance would not be a ban thing.

Or, which is what seems to have happened, the EU could decide that NATO is the de facto "European Army" which they've been jonesing so hard for. In which case why should the US be part of it?

  3. I would love for Trump to revive the Warsaw Pact, except exclude East Ger.... I mean Germany (same thing anymore).
    They know to fight communism.

  4. I don't see NATO as much of a benefit to Europe these days, and even less of a benefit to the US.
There doesn't seem to be much of a military threat to Europe, either, other than maybe Russia; but after struggling for years with a relatively weak nation like Ukraine, they don't seem like much to worry about.
And I agree that if Europe ends up muslim, we don't need to help defend any part of that. So why not get out now, not later.
