"Construction workers find gold stash estimated to be worth $10 million during renovations in Belgium".
Construction workers in Belgium stumbled upon a stash of gold believed to be worth more than $10 million during renovation work on a building.
Police said they were "immediately" contacted by the workers [emphasis added - Paco] after they discovered "a large quantity of gold" while working on a building in the east Flemish town of Dendermonde.
Ok, let me tell you something. If me and my homies had been the workers who had discovered $10 million in gold on that construction site, I guaran-damn-tee you wouldn't be reading about it. And the police would be sitting down at the local Wafel Huis, or whatever they have in Belgium, none the wiser.
This is in Belgium? Oh sure, let's see what happens when somebody unwraps the gold foil and discovers the chocolate.
ReplyDeleteSeriously. Construction workers called the police?!!??! Only in wussified Europe ... ...
ReplyDelete"Apparently, several treasure hunters would like to pay another visit to the site," read a Facebook post by the police department -- which changed its profile picture to a gold coin in light of the find.
"A golden piece of advice: it is truly pointless," they said -- cautioning the curious to stay away from the fenced-off construction site.
True story: when I was a kid, the owner of a pasture across the road from my grandparents was putting in new fencing, and dug up a bag with 7 double eagles in it.
In case you don't know ... ... a double eagle was a coin once issued by the US Mint, comprised of 1.0750 troy ounces of gold, and worth $20 ... ... at the time. They were minted until 1935.
And, of course, worth far more at the time they were dug up, either by the amount of gold, or the numismatic value.
Within a couple of weeks, the entire pasture had many holes dug in it ... ... and not by the owner. So the police had that much right.
See, I'd turn in the "$1 miilion I found!"
ReplyDeleteWho knows? Maybe they found $100 million worth.
Clever.
Delete"Holy crap, there's five million dollars here! We have to call the police and turn in this one million dollars! Obviously the right thing to do is hand over this half million we found! Somebody call the boss and tell him about this quarter million here!"
