Oh I don't know, I thought they were kinda cute myself. High school and college mascots and team names are part of the fun. Notable exception is that darned tree for Stanford, he puts the "de" back in deforestation for me.

The names in minor league baseball are pretty cute as well especially when you get down to AA and below.
Much better than major league club names. Which do you prefer, the Yankees/Mets or the Batavia Muckdogs? Detroit Tigers or the Lansing Lugnuts? Phillies or the Williamsport Crosscutters?.

Yojimbo: There are truly some great minor league club names out there. I have, among my collection of baseball caps, hats bearing the logos of the Toledo Mud Hens, the Carolina Mud Cats, and the Hickory Crawdads.

Mud Hens is a good "exception proves the rule" for AAA teams which seem to be about plain vanilla names, the other would be the IronPigs-Phillies AAA. FYI,minor league baseball has its own consolidated website which lists all of the teams, even Fall League and Mexican League. That site will take you directly to the team site without searching.

Funny you should mention collections as I have been toying with the idea of starting two myself.
1) Sweatshirts from some of the smaller schools like Slipperyrock or schools with great nicknames. I have to get a North Dakota Fighting Sioux before the PC police obliterate that one!
2) A baseball cap or one of those minature bats from all of the minor league teams from AA on down.
Just start collecting by league-Texas League, Southern League, NY-Penn League and so on. I orignally wanted to do that on a personal visit basis but She Who Is Never Wrong is not up to that anymore.

HEY! My mom was a Chinook Sugarbeeter! Played trombone in the band, even!

And don't forget, the Montgomery Biscuits! That's gotta be my favorite for minor league baseball.

Montgomery Biscuits! My God. First we had Billyball, then we had Smallball and now we have Biscuitball!

Good evening, Montgomery Biscuit baseball is on the air! Coming to you over KFAN, the mighty 690, the 500 watt blowtorch covering Montgomery and ,on good days, four out of ten suburbs.

What's their mascot, the Pillsbury Doughboy? Instead of T-shirts they probably shoot biscuits into the stands.

God, I love going to those games. It's so much better than watching high priced brats jog to first after grounding out. You can park close to the entrance and walk into a clean ballpark and then sit just about anywhere.

Here's the Biscuits' logo.
