The great thing about shooting BMG 50 at steel on the range is...

...there's no question about whether or not you hit your target.

  1. My best friend has a Barrett 50BMG bolt action. It could be handy if some leftists want to FAFO.

I get plenty of fun shooting steel with 5.56, 9mm, and .22.

Not nearly as spectacular, but then again I can set up the steel and hit it a hundred or so times without having to go downrange and find it each shot.

  3. I guess you have all seen this ricochet. Those big slugs have a lot of kinetic energy. Very scary.

  5. Wow, Mick! I had never seen that video clip. Personally, I just shoot at paper and plastic (and, occasionally, aluminum). And I don't have anything in that caliber (although maybe I should get one of those rifles; you never know when the eggheads might succeed in cloning a T-Rex).

JeffS: Seriously? Somebody, somewhere, must have a humongous rat problem.

  6. JeffS that buckshot would be a really good option to have in ones toolkit. Maybe at a campus near you. The only guns with a bigger caliber are punt guns.

Paco I never served but worked as a civilian with explosives.
I was invited once to witness some old 1 and 2 thousand pound aerial bombs being exploded. We were about half a mile away and the range controller said we could poke our heads over the protective berm. He said that if we heard a whistling noise to pull our heads down and hit the deck.
We heard it and did as instructed and he later retrieved the nastiest piece of shrapnel imagineable about 50 yards in front of the berm.
All I can say is if you hear that whistle while you are on a range, it is coming at you "duck and cover".
