He's back, baby!
Updated Here's a snippet from a 1951 Bugs Bunny cartoon which includes a, er, probably verbatim transcript of the discussion between Columbus and King Ferdinand about the shape of the world.
"There are countless horrible things happening all over the world and horrible people prospering, but we must never allow them to disturb our equanimity or deflect us from our sacred duty to sabotage and annoy them whenever possible." -Auberon Waugh
"Round, firm, fully packed," which goes right past 90% of today's viewers... who probably are not even old enough to have seen tobacco ads on TV back in the day.
ReplyDeleteWas a time that cigarette slogans were common catch phrases even among non smokers. "I'd walk a mile..."

So Italian.
the telling people about it was the thing; I read the book Cod and it says that the Basques were supplying a huge amount of dried cod to europe, but no one knew where it was coming from; turns out that they had found a great spot off the coast of nova Scotia and kept it a trade secret.
