Happy Columbus Day!

 He's back, baby!

Updated  Here's a snippet from a 1951 Bugs Bunny cartoon which includes a, er, probably verbatim transcript of the discussion between Columbus and King Ferdinand about the shape of the world.

  1. "Round, firm, fully packed," which goes right past 90% of today's viewers... who probably are not even old enough to have seen tobacco ads on TV back in the day.

Was a time that cigarette slogans were common catch phrases even among non smokers. "I'd walk a mile..."

  2. What Trump did is cool on a bunch of levels.
Not least of which is trolling our fine, frothing, lefty, betters.

I'd say Columbus might not have discovered America, he did open a route to get here and told folks about it.
    Which nobody else had done.
I always think of Amerigo Vespucci on Columbus Day. His friend the mapmaker named it for him.
2 continents 'fell off the truck'.
    So Italian.

  3. the telling people about it was the thing; I read the book Cod and it says that the Basques were supplying a huge amount of dried cod to europe, but no one knew where it was coming from; turns out that they had found a great spot off the coast of nova Scotia and kept it a trade secret.

    1. Yes, I saw that. She does look like many of the depictions of Columbus.
