UPDATE: Both Guardsmen have died of their wounds.

Better to say unconfirmed, rather than wrong. There was a press conference, which I haven't seen, but apparently the latest is that the Guardsmen are in critical condition.

That is terrible news. I am not a praying man but my thoughts are definitely with those young men and their families.
ReplyDeleteCan anyone tell me if the guards are armed? I haven't seen any weapons since the deployment started, maybe side arms, but no rifles.
Google says some of them are armed when they go on patrol, apparently under an order issued in August of this year.

ReplyDeleteThe latest news is that the female guard (the one that was shot in the head) is not expected to survive. That was confirmed by her father. She’s only 20 years old. The shooter is an Afghan who worked for the CIA in Afghanistan, was brought over by the Biden administration, and whose visa expired, so he’s here illegally.

Question - both the victims were young, very young. Was lack of experience a factor? Or were they just in the wrong place at the wrong time?
I think they were ambushed. It seems like the guy just came up and started shooting. I'm not sure what security protocols the National Guard has in place for normal patrols (if they were on patrol; I'm not even sure of that).
