It was $49.95 when I started seeing those ads. I always figured for that price you had to tape the car yourself. Or scrape paint off the glass, side view mirrors, bumpers, tires, wheels, door handles and antenna I guess.
Aside from the pre-inflation (and likely pre-expanded regulatory system) prices, the hat worn by the first woman in the commercial SCREAMS 1960s.

DeleteI don't know about the hat, but I suspect that dress may have gotten her $20 of free metal work.
