No president has the right to commission such an architectural monstrosity

No, I'm not talking about Trump and the East Wing of the White House. I'm talking about ex-president Barak Obama. So, Barry, what the hell do you think you're doing?

Seriously, I cannot grasp how anyone, including the architect, thought this was a good idea. I know it's not finished yet, but the inherent hideousness of the Obama library is obvious. And the ugliness is going to carry over to the final product, as this artist's rendition demonstrates.

Is "Giant Bollard" an architectural school, now?

  1. Ugly doesn’t even begin to describe that thing. It’s utterly alien.

  2. That design follows from the old USSR "large block construction", or Khrushchevka. That produced endless rows of super ugly, utilitarian mass housing, commie style.

Then the architects added in the depressing elements of "modern" American architecture. While they were seriously stoned on weed and cheap vokda.

This resulted in what is best described as the late Harkonnen carceral style.

    1. "Stalinist Wedding Cake."

About twenty years ago I visited Prague with my parents. It is without doubt the most charming city I have ever seen, and I can't even say I'd describe any other city as "charming." But we turned one corner and saw two butt ugly concrete blocks so out of place with the rest of the building, and my mother and I turned to each other and said in unison "Soviets."

Sure enough they were build by the USSR, and I bet the Czechs kept them standing solely as a daily reminder of what uncultured brutal goons Russians are.

  3. Wasn't this was an Empire base in one of the Star Wars movies?

    1. I saw an image of this thing somewhere with the caption, "The Death Star is almost operational".

    2. You may be thinking of the large mobile structure that one of the indigenous tribes on tatooine used to capture/collect droids.

  4. I would describe it as "uninspiring."

Kind of like the man himself. So, in that sense, they nailed it.

  5. How could anybody look at that and think it looks good?
It's the opposite of Obama, it's ugly on the outside, he's ugly on the inside.
The funny part is it's already overbudget, years late, and falling apart due to shoddy construction and materials.
Spot on for the Obama brand.

    1. I wouldn't say definitely that Obama is not ugly on the outside. I mean, his face doesn't look like a melted candle (like that of Maxine Waters), but he does kind of remind me of a fence post with a soup tureen balanced on top.
