This week, we feature feet that are not only happy, but ecstatic. I linked this once at Tim's, but it's always worth another look, especially since it's quite possibly the best swing dancing routine in cinema history (from the 1941 movie Hellzapoppin').

years ago i had a friend who would dance with me like that.. it was so much fun. i didnt know squat but he knew how to throw me around and catch me. we would make the room stop!
ReplyDeleteI danced like that once - very briefly. As I recall, liquor and a fugitive banana peel were involved.
ReplyDeleteThey sure don't dance in that sophisticated style any longer. It's definitely a shame.
ReplyDeleteBy the way Paco, the mental image of a fine detective like your good self dancing like that by accident cracks me up. It's just unbelievable.
The fugitive banana peel comment only makes me admire these dancers more - there are a couple of times when they tread on bits of displaced headwear but just keep dancing without missing a beat - or coming to serious grief. No edits there. Unbelievable.
ReplyDeleteThis was a real treat. Thanks for posting it Paco.

The thing that really appeals to me in pieces like this (aside from the infectious rhythm) is the sheer, unrestrained joy. The whirling abandon of the dancers, the high-pitched trilling of the clarinet, and that soaring trumpet! It truly gives me a lift.
