Maybe It's a Thyroid Problem

I'm not sure that having to scrimp on food is such a bad idea for these ladies (caution: the NPR article linked to by Moonbattery has a photo with the usual tag for enlarging. It's up to you, of course, but I really don't see the need).

  1. I'd hate to see what they looked like before they had to cut back on food.

  2. This story could only work on radio.

  3. We've come so far as a society that Survival of the Fittest is no longer in effect. Those who would never survive 75 years ago do now...and they breed more of their kind, who feed off those of us who DO work. Richest nation in history, & our Welfare Citizens are fat, with televisions, stereos, computers, tatoos, fancy finger & toenail paint, & $100 running shoes. For which they paid with MY money.

    Disgusting.

  4. When I lived in Chicago, long long ago, I recall watching a news segment about the hungry poor.

Except that all of the "hungry" poor on the broadcast were, ummmmm, very well fed.

    Some things never change.

  5. PS - Thyroid condition runs in my family - when it's under control NONE of them are fat.

  6. KC: Mrs. Paco also has a thyroid condition, but, what is baffling to the doctors, is that her symptoms never involved weight gain - even though she has the kind of thyroid condition that normally would cause a person to gain weight. She's always got to be different, though, so I'm not surprised...

As to the gals in the photo, I believe they've probably got a carb condition.

  7. More'n likely, Paco. With limited money for groceries, they'd be filling up on carbs and not so much on protein.

  8. Great story for Jenny Craig. A before and after picture.

Yes, I know. Straight to hell with me. Already have my boarding pass.

  9. Mine, too, Paco. I was a teenager when my condition was diagnosed, & the next stage, according to all the docs "studying" me (teaching hospital 1968) the next stage was deformity...then death. Still need the meds, very grateful my vanity didn't have a crushing blow like "deformity" -- except for being short & skinny.

  10. They don't need to enlarge the photo - these women could be seen from the space shuttle.

  11. Mild Colonial: I sure didn't "click to enlarge"; I was afraid the picture would spill out of my monitor.
