paco, I've always loathed those larger than life portraits of living persons in any location, in large part because I view them as vanity. Smaller photos, fine, especially when intended to show who the bosses are.
ReplyDeleteBut that Orwellian version of The One™ clearly is for vanity and domination. If I worked there, I'd be tempted to paint a moustache and horns on it.

Guy's got an ego the size of...well...nevermind...but I'm glad I don't work for him. I get the impression he thinks G-d sits at his right hand, not the other way around.
ReplyDeleteOrwell's Big Brother idea was probably based on Augustus/Octavian Caesar, who seems to have invented the concept of 'rule by image', mass-producing specially designed statues of himself to be displayed across his empire.
