V I Day

Per the excellent Zombie's suggestion, let us celebrate Victory in Iraq Day.

God bless all of those who have made this possible - above all, those finest of our citizens, the men and women in uniform.

Anyone for firecrackers?

I'm up for firecrackers, and we'd better enjoy 'em now; they'll probably be banned soon.

I went shooting today. Does that count?

TW: deanizer. No, computer, I didn't shoot at Howard Dean.

Victory will be when the next ME country follows suit and becomes genuinely democratic. For the time being we have Iraq stabilised, but Iran still there, and Syria not really neutralised as a force for nuisance in the neighbourhood.
The Saudis are still exporting dollars with strings of a certain kind attached.
Afghanistan needs more of everything, and Pakistan is a hotbed.
Happy Victory Day to all, but don't get too excited just yet.

Not so much excited, blogstrop - more of a show of appreciation for a job well done, work in progress, a result of sacrifice on the part of many, recognition that will be long (if ever) in coming from any media source or Government Entity.
