Reports of the Death of the Republican Party Prove to Be Premature

Voters in Louisiana dumped William Jefferson, the Democratic congressman indicted for taking payoffs (and famous for storing some 90,000 dollars of the mazoolah in his freezer), and elected Republican Anh "Joseph" Cao, a Vietnamese-American. Cao pulled off this victory in a heavily black and Democratic district.

Republicans also beat off a Democratic challenge in Louisiana's 4th District, as John Fleming defeated district attorney Paul Carmouche.

Looks like the GOP isn't ready to stagger off to the elephant graveyard quite yet.

  1. Good news from Louisiana! Jefferson is frozen out of his plush job.

  3. Two conservative Republican Asian-Americans in Louisiana, the deepest part of the South, where all the (supposed) Neanderthal White Supremacist Trailer Trash and Po' Ignernt Cajuns, Creoles, and Blacks live.

Reality just doesn't seem to impact the Democratic mentality.

  4. Never fear: The New York Times has found a "racist" angle for Jefferson's loss.
