A friend and I cut and sold firewood for several winters back in the '80s. So, I've dropped many trees, and know the dangers involved. A couple of too close calls prompts me to say: there but for the grace of God!

I know a guy who has survived two tree cutting operations that went wrong. In one case, the chain saw was ripped from his hands, and sent flying a 100 feet or so before it impacted the ground in a rather spectacular fashion. No, he's not a lumberjack. He just thinks he is.
