Protocolypse
The Maximum Hep Cat thinks it would be kinda square to visit Normandy. Might offend Britain and Germany (Britain? Weren't we on the same side in that war?).

Perhaps it's best that he stays away; at least until there's respect for those that lie there, and what was achieved, at great cost. If his wife is only fleetingly and sporadically proud of her country, she might as well stay away for good.
Not really the way to advance the prevailing narrative of his world tour.
I guess he could have gone to Bastogne to apologize about American arrogance but then he would have run right into that little marble courtyard or plaza with the surrounding walls with the names of all who died there.
I'm proud of the fact that the Yojimbo made that trip, it takes all day with trains and bus service, and I'm glad he didn't.
Yojimbo -- Yeah, he could have apologized for how arrogant it was of us to save half of Europe's asses while kicking the other half... I mean, really, who are we to judge which needed which?

The White House rejected the offer, but Mr Sarkozy's most senior aide said Mr Obama had agreed to come back in June for the 65th anniversary of the June 6th 1944, D-Day landings. A White House spokesman declined to comment on whether Mr Obama would travel to France in June.
"This will allow for a longer conversation and a more ambitious bilateral visit," said Claude Gueant, the secretary general of the Elysée Palace, last week.
