How is it, again, that the French have come to pride themselves on their logical minds?

The title of this news item says it all: ”What could possibly go wrong?” Nearly 200 French prisoners are going to be permitted to cycle around France “watched by scores of guards on bicycles, in the first penal version of the Tour de France.” A priceless quote from one of the inmates: “It’s a kind of escape for us…”

  1. Unbelievable. How long before our French-loving progressives decide that's a peachy-keen idea for the Troglodyte (Anglo) areas of the world?

  2. It's ok, Rebecca; I hear Inspector Clouseau is in charge.

  3. For starters, the average participant in Le Tour falls 3 or 4 times during the race - that's why half of them seemed to be covered in bandages at the end.

If a prisoner goes down, my guess is he'll sue the prison service for causing the injury

  4. They'd do better to hook the bikes to small generators, and make the inmates earn their bread. Beats breaking rocks, and it's green to boot.

But I doubt that the Frogs are that smart. In fact, I know they aren't.

  6. It sure is, Old T. I'll be waiting to see how many have arranged for friends and relatives in get-away cars to cruise by at predetermined locations.

  7. The prisoners won't need get a way cars, they'll probably be able to out-pedal the guards.

  8. Some years ago, in Sweden, some famous playwright - whos name shall not be mentioned, mostly because I don't remember it - persuaded the authorities to let criminals to appear in a play at the Swedish National Theater. Mind you, these were hardened murderers and rapist doing some very serious time.

You'll never guess what happened at the first rehearsal....
