Lilies, for example. Incidentally, I don't know what that yellow flower is in the background. A neighbor has scores of them growing in a patch in her front yard and gave us a few. Any ideas? Buttercups, maybe?
The dwarf carnations are flowering fiends, although they tend to fall over after a heavy rain (which explains the little wrap-around fence).
Snapdragons are one of my favorite flowers, and we had a bumper crop, this year. They're annuals, but instead of digging up the dead plants last fall, I spread pine straw over them. To my delight, many of them came back this year, and even the ones that didn't, reseeded.

The lillies are spectacular. The fact that we've actually had a spring this year has helped a lot.
I had good luck with snap dragons wintering over if they were in a reasonably protected spot. They're such cheerful flowers, as are pansies. Do you know the little trick snap dragons perform when you pinch them?

They're kinda like puppets, aren't they? If you squeeze the flower gently, it looks like it's talking.
Yes, that's it. It's how you make the dragon snap. I thought this was one of those things learned as a kid from other kids, but I've run in to a surprising number of adults who look at me like I'm crazy when I mention it.
