Our prayers go out for the souls of those police officers gunned down in Lakewood, Washington, and for their families, friends and fellow officers.
The suspect is a man by the name of Maurice Clemmons, who, interestingly, had previously been jailed in Arkansas and had his sentence commuted nine years ago by then-governor Mike Huckabee.

I read over on legal insurrection that this is The GOP's Dukakis/Willie Horton moment. Looks like the gov might want to stay at Fox News. The left-turds in Western Washington are going to be on this like stink on S***!
ReplyDeleteHear hear.

I'll be all over it like stink on S***. If we/I can condemn Norman Mailer for his arrogant, ignorant championing of Jack Henry Abbott, how can we/I support Mike Huckabee?
ReplyDeleteWhat I find of more immediate interest than the fact that Huckabee commuted this guy's sentence is just how, with his reord of felonies in both Arkansas AND Washington, he managed to draw a mere $15 thousand bail requirement with a child-rape charge pending.
ReplyDeleteI'm even more astonished that the guy even got out of jail at all. For the love of God, what does it take to keep murderers and rapists locked up?
ReplyDeletebtw, Paco, you might expect heavier traffic in the coming days. It's appears Tim Blair has gone Andrew Bolt's route and done away with comments. :-(
Wait a minute. It appears Blair's comment sections are back.
ReplyDelete??
According to CW, a poster at Confederate Yankee who was commenting on a link there: "Gov. Huckabee did NOT pardon this man, Maurice Clemmons (nor did he pardon Wayne Dumond). Huckabee commuted his sentence from 60 yrs for a non-violent crime Clemmons committed when he was a minor. Clemmons was still left in prison. The Arkansas Parole board, completely independent of the Governor, decided to grant parole. Shortly after he was released, Clemmons violated parole and was sent back to prison."
ReplyDeleteThe tragedy is a failure of the system in two states over Clemmons' criminal career. There were many missed opportunities to incarcerate this guy for life. Huckabee is just a target of opportunity at truth's expense. The other players, whose names we probably won't know, should send him a gift basket for taking their heat.
Truth should always be held above party. But there are those that are willing to jump on the "I didn't like Huck before it was cool to not like Huck" bandwagon.

After seeing the Commutation Proclamation that is posted at Free Republic, I recind some of my earlier comments. Given the length of the sentences Clemmons was given for his offenses, how could the Parole Board recommend his release and how could Governor Huckabee could sign this? The fact remains that there were many opportunities in both states to put Clemmons away and they failed.

ReplyDeleteWas it something I said?
Huckabee just lied on Fox. First he said he had no input from proesecutors. Then he said they had "no record" of input. And O'Reilly is helping him.
ReplyDeleteThis is Democrat level spin and misdirection and it is going to bite us in the ass.
From the Seattle Times:
ReplyDelete"Nine years ago, then-Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee granted clemency to Clemmons, commuting his lengthy prison sentence over the protests of prosecutors.
"This is the day I've been dreading for a long time," Larry Jegley, prosecuting attorney for Arkansas' Pulaski County said tonight when informed that Clemmons was being sought for questioning in connection with the killings."
What I find of more immediate interest than the fact that Huckabee commuted this guy's sentence is just how, with his reord of felonies in both Arkansas AND Washington, he managed to draw a mere $15 thousand bail requirement with a child-rape charge pending.
ReplyDeleteWashington state is dominated by lefties; western Washington is infested with them, especially in the Seattle-Tacoma area. The legal system leans accordingly, especially in the Seattle-Tacoma area. That sort of clueless, liberal doofusstivity is typical in this state. Unfortunately.
"Doofusstivity"!:)
ReplyDeleteStupid lefties WA state may be, but they would never have had a crack at Clemmons -- or needed one -- if Huckabee had done his job.
