Lock and Load!

Time to showcase some of the Paco arsenal before the Democrats overturn the second amendment (click to enlarge).

This is a Winchester Centennial model .30/.30 lever-action. It's got a long (and heavy) octagonal barrel, brass side- and butt-plates, and an ornamental saddle-ring. Note the deluxe finish on the stock. Class all the way! Unfortunately, it's too nice to shoot, so I keep it around for looks.

Here's the Winchester's distant cousin: a no-frills, all-business Marlin .30/.30 lever-action. This is a great little light-weight rifle.

Weathered and worn, this WWII Mauser 7.9mm is still an outstanding piece of engineering. It's fun to shoot, and deadly accurate.

Astute readers will recognize Detective Paco's weapon of choice, the Ruger Police Service-Six .38 Spl. This is a fine revolver, with a simple, but elegant design; accurate and easy to carry, I keep this baby loaded with hollow points as part of the home-protection system.

This little pea-shooter is a Sterling .25 semi-auto. I believe the company is out of business, but I always liked this pistol. Fits in the palm of your hand, and I don't recall it ever jamming.

For you gun-controlling liberals out there, this is not an "assault rifle". In fact, it's not a gun at all. This is a two-edged, razor-sharp dagger with a steel pommel that I started carrying on my hikes into the White Tank Mountains when I lived in Arizona. I used to go way off the marked trails, far back into the brush and cactus, and one late afternoon I came upon a sandy-bottomed arroyo where someone had scratched pentagrams and other satanic signs in the dirt. After that, I figured it might be a good idea to carry a little protection - just in case.

Dad still has his Dad's Winchester 44/40 lever action. Dad reckoned it was very useful for shooting koalas (as you did back in 1900). Blasted thing kicks like a mule though, and it's about as accurate as a drunken blind man chucking darts in a pub.

Nice arsenal, Paco!

Ouch. That knife looks mean, man! Be happy you don't live here in Denmark. If you carry a knife with a blade longer than 7 centimeters (that's 2.7 inches for you backward people) you're looking at a mandatory 7 days in the slammer. Og don't even think about packing a pocketknife with a lockable blade... You're going down if you do that!

That's Europe for ya. I envy your second amendment, I truly do! Don't let anyone take it away from you.

OK. If I ever make it to Virginia, remind me to email first before knocking on your door.

PS Ditto what Mikael said. Not that I ever owned one, but John Howard's biggest mistake was taking away our guns.

PPS Butterfly knife in high school for trips into the city (but I would have been dead meat had the situation ever come up to use it).

LOL! I've got a cheap bought-on-the-Kathmandu-street gurkha back home in Oz... and a huge scar on my left index finger from playing silly buggers after it was sharpened one time. Jeez, that one bled.

LOVED the Winchester Centennial!

A knife gets you a handgun.
A handgun gets you a long gun.
Enough long guns get you a country.

Old rule of thumb.

Have you ever had any problems with your Marlin 'death-jamming' with a crooked round in the feed?

Boy on a bike... have your Dad have the Winchester .44-40 'slugged' (a soft lead plug is hammered the length of the barrel to determine the _exact_ bore.) Any decent gunshop or smith can do this.

.44-40 barrels differ slightly from more modern .44 Special/Magnum barrels in exact bore and a lot of modern .44-40 ammo doesn't reflect the difference.

Of course, the barrel could just be worn.

Either way, if you or your dad handload, a simple resizing die setting could make all the difference...

Richard: No, but I haven't shot it that often.

Mikael: What the heck good is a knife less than three inches long? Although, I guess that's the point of the law.

Greetings C.L.! Where've you been keeping yourself?

Paco: You're right. Recently there was a young man thrown in jail because he had a box-cutter in the compartment of his car door. He worked as a package deliverer. It was his god damn job to cut boxes open, but as the knife wasn't under lock and key in the trunk of his car the judge had no choice but to put him away.

This is insane. And don't get me started on the severe penalties if you own a firearm!
Hmm, how do one get a green card?
