Andy Kirk is a new name to me, although the music seems familiar. Maybe it's just that overall big band sound. In any case, it made my visualize my mother in bobby sox and plaid skirt dancing to the beat with my newly-demobilized father in loafers and khaki pants.

Thanks for the momentary flash down memory lane, Paco!

Glad you liked it, Rebecca. Andy Kirk and his band were around for quite a long time; he kept his orchestra going from the mid thirties until the early fifties. Mary Lou Williams, his pianist for several years, was a well-known boogie and blues composer from Kansas City. "Roll 'em" was eventually orchestrated for Benny Goodman's band, and was one of the few genuine boogie-woogie numbers his outfit recorded.

Thanks for the link, Bob!

I invite those interested to particularly dig that piano solo beginning at 1:05.
