You explained your support of the boycott as follows: “While we recognize that as neighbors, we share resources and ties with the State of Arizona that may be difficult to sever, our goal is not to hurt the local economy of Los Angeles, but to impact the economy of Arizona. Our intent is to use our dollars — or the withholding of our dollars — to send a message.” (emphasis added)Heh. Hardball, Mr. Mayor; that's what it's called. It will be interesting to see the strange boycott civil war that's going to break out if more states follow Arizona's lead.
I received your message; please receive mine. As a state-wide elected member of the Arizona Corporation Commission overseeing Arizona’s electric and water utilities, I too am keenly aware of the “resources and ties” we share with the City of Los Angeles. In fact, approximately twenty-five percent of the electricity consumed in Los Angeles is generated by power plants in Arizona.
If an economic boycott is truly what you desire, I will be happy to encourage Arizona utilities to renegotiate your power agreements so Los Angeles no longer receives any power from Arizona-based generation.

Boycotting Los Angeles is a wonderful idea!
ReplyDeleteBoycotting Los Angeles is a wonderful idea, JeffS! I fully support it...er, I would if I could figure out how to since it is home. Ideas, anyone?

By-the-way, for those of you wishing to extend congratulations to AZ Commissioner Gary Pierce, the mail box is full as of 2:22pm Pacific. Seems that more than a few folks want to express their well wishes. Keep trying!

Paco, any opportunities here for your candle producing companies. I've some left over from when Queensland Premier Jo Bjelke Petersen took on the State Electricity Unions in the 80s. And won. Special price for you.
ReplyDeleteMehaul: Thanks, but we manufacture our own from polar bear tallow.
ReplyDeleteBugger. AGW got all Queensland's polar bears. You'll have to go it alone.
ReplyDeletePolar Bear tallow!
ReplyDeleteMy last order from Paco Enterprises stated, and I quote: "Made from genuine Manatee and Harp Seal with just a hint of AGW devastated Great Barrier Reef coral." I paid "premium" prices and express shipping for this!
Yojimbo: Most products contain mostly inert ingredients. Our tallow candles are 1% manatee, 1% harp seal, and 98%, er, inert polar bear.
