What I did on my vacation

Well, it ain't even half way over yet, but I imagine the highlight was today, when me and the missus took a trip down to Virginia Arms in Manassas and I picked up a Smith & Wesson .41 Magnum. It's from S&W's Classics Collection, and is a real beauty. My father, Old Paco, carried a .41 back in his lawman days (in addition to his .44 Magnum hog-leg and a Colt snub-nose .38). He always fancied revolvers - probably 'cause the gun he accidentally shot himself in the leg with was a Llama .45 semi-automatic - and I'm partial to 'em, too. Mrs. Paco was eying the Ruger SP 101 .38 special, and started asking questions about Laser grips (which caused me to raise an eyebrow; I wasn't aware she knew what they were). Might make a nice present for her birthday next month.

Here's a photo of the .41 Magnum:

Sweet! What a GREAT vacation you're having!!!

Jeff: The only thing that kept it from being an absolutely perfect day was the fact that the store happened to be out of .41 Mag ammo.

Bummer! No ammo, no noise. :-(

Very nice.

So I guess I know which Beatles' album is your favorite...

ooh, pretty shooty thing!

Now you need a matching '92 lever action.

More Bookstick Food and here.

One thing about the .41, it'a a bit of a 'connoiseur' cartridge, and as such, the selection of rounds for it is kind of limited unless you handload.

Richard: Thanks for the link to the ammo web site. You're right about the .41 Mag round; it is kind of semi-exotic and hard to find.

Oooh, nice.

Drool, drool.

I'm partial to glocks or old 1911's

Too much reloading with a wheelie.

BTW: I have my grandad's old deer rifle - a Winchester lever-action in .25-35 - and his .32 pocket pistol (he was a sheriff in Auburn during the later part of the gold rush), complete with a busted grip from where he pistol-whipped some drunken miner on a Saturday night.

Try finding store-bought ammo for that rifle sometime. It can be done, but not easily and definitely not cheaply.

Paco, buying any ammo or reloading components remains hit or miss. But it is getting better. Slowly.

But Richard has the right of it, I'm afraid.

Mojo: I love lever-actions! I've got two, both in .30-.30: a Marlin and a beautiful centennial Winchester with deluxe high-gloss stock and fore-grip, and plenty of brass. The Winchester has a very long (and very heavy) octagonal barrel.

Curse the day Cheaper Than Dirt could advertise guns! Guns and books, I end up buying one if I look for more than 10 minutes. Luckily, I got the browser tabs closed in 9:53.

However, having gotten an eyeful, I'll be in my bunk.
