After spending two years fighting a legal battle that was clearly futile from the start, he didn't take the defeat graciously. He resentfully acknowledged his obligation to abide by the Second Amendment while pledging new shackles for those unwilling to depend entirely on 911 for home security.I suppose Daley and the other Democratic machine-politicians who run Chicago aren't going to be happy until the place looks like Detroit.
The mayor is expected to demand registration of all handguns, mandatory training for gun owners and a limit of one handgun per person. This last novel idea comes from Corporation Counsel Mara Georges, who according to the Associated Press "says the court ruled people can have a gun for protection, but didn't say they're allowed more than one."
"Youse lawr-abidin' citizens don't need no guns; just make like dis and say 'boom!'"
The Chicago city government is all about control. I don't think Daley's father established that concept, but he sure as heck perfected it. His son carries on the tradition in such a fashion as to make his dad proud.
ReplyDeleteAccording to Instapundit and NewsAlert, Daley has backed off the one-gun rule. Maybe even he realizes he's on the losing end of this argument.
ReplyDeleteGun control is what people call for when they don't want to address the actual problems. Even without gun bans, the Chicago machine geniuses will always have ideas :
ReplyDeletePolice Supt. Jody Weis ...[has] got a new defense. He's creating a new category of "indoor" homicides — and downplaying what police can do about them...
and
Ald. Freddrenna Lyle (6th) has her hands full combating a surge of homicides in the South Side’s Gresham District.
She was also forced to lock or take down the basketball rims at Chatham’s Cole Park after two shootings at the courts in one month left several young people wounded.
Because in Chicago, inanimate objects like basketball rims cause violence and so banning them and using collective punishment against the average Joe seems like the way to go. Or if I were really cynical, they are trying to drive the people (including the violent people) indoors so any murders will be "indoor homicides" and the city won't feel it will have to do anything.
Of course, it should always be mentioned that in Chicago Daley has armed bodyguards and the aldermen, unlike everyone else in Illinois, can legally carry a loaded gun around.
