Low comedy

John Stewart will be holding his ironically-named "Restore Sanity" rally today in Washington. Is there really any point to it, besides hammering Fox? Tunku Varadarajan weighs in:
For all their iconoclasm, Stewart and his sidekick-in-sanity, Stephen Colbert, calculate to honor mainstream liberal pieties. Daily, Stewart shores up caustically the conventional wisdom of a moderate-left orthodoxy, scolding what are perceived to be the extremes, almost invariably of the right, in a fiesta of self-congratulation.
There's no tool like a "cool" tool. And there's nothing sane about playing court jester to the Leviathan state.

Yes, but they're doing it ironically.

My wife enjoys the Daily Show even though she's not a liberal or a Dem, so she watched the whole thing. I watched part of it, and all I could think of was, "It's like the high school A-V club got together and decided that they were the cool, hipster kids."

I mean, it was beyond lame.

Meh, Stewart and Colbert are just copying Beck. They have their funny moments, and their flashes of insight, but in the end, they're just another pair of leftie political hacks striving for relevance.

I will concede that Stewart is somewhat better than Colbert, but that only because Stewart had the wit not to embarrass himself at a Congressional hearing.

How were the numbers compared to Beck's?

Bing, there's a good graphic comparison of numbers here:

Bruce, thanks for that link. It shows that even with overt union and political support, not to mention celebrities, the lefties still can't draw a big crowd.

I think the worst aspect to all of this is the fact that you have a whole bunch of people that consider restoring honor a substantial threat.

During CSPAN's coverage there was a caller who said that while everyone has the First Amendment, Glenn Beck (and someone else) should be shut down, because they are "dangerous". She claimed that Beck calls for people to be shot, at which point the moderator questioned when she had heard that. She ignored his question and kept talking. I came on and pointed out that he never had, as well as the faulty argument she had proposed. Further, that those in attendence didn't even get that they were props in comedy routine. CSPAN cut me off.

How much trash did Park Service have to clean up?
