Desecration

C’mon! You don’t see me putting ketchup on escargot, do you?

H/T: Mrs. Paco

Completely unrelated item: In my list of favorite movies, I meant to draw special attention to Murder, He Says. I first saw it years ago (I think on AMC), and it recently premiered on TCM. It is an absolutely delightful screwball comedy/murder mystery starring Fred MacMurray, Helen Walker, Marjorie Main, and Peter Whitney (who plays the twin brothers, Mert and Bert). It ought to recycle on TCM eventually, so don't miss it!

Also, I left out another favorite from my list: Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House. Terrific cast (Cary Grant, Myrna Loy and Melvyn Douglas), hilarious situation, fine performances all around. And while I'm remembering, I'll add The Uninvited, a superb ghost story released in 1944 featuring Ray Milland, Ruth Hussey, Gail Russell and Donald Crisp. The scene in the music room where a recently picked rose wilts before your eyes because of the presence of an evil spirit still has the power to chill the blood.

  1. The problem is there are just too many good movies. Mr. "If you ain't eating Wham.." Blandings is one of my favorites as well. Hard to dislike anything he did but some of my top picks would be To Catch a Thief, Operation Petticoat and Father Goose.

Christmas in Connecticut(old version) is great.
    Dial M for Murder
The entire Powell/Loy Thin Man series.
    Anything with James Stewart.
Stagecoach, Red River, They Were Expendable
    Run Silent, Run Deep
    Vera Cruz

  3. Did you see the 60s movie "The Innocents"? It's based on Henry James' "The Turn of the Screw" and was filmed in black and white and was about the scariest thing I ever saw in a theater. It's great. I doubt if it would come across on anything but a very large tv screen.

A very good old political movie (1930s) is "Meet John Doe". It stars Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyck. I showed it once to a class in Politics and the Media, and the uniform response from the female students was, "Wow!! That Cooper guy is hot!!" ;->=

Yojimbo is right. Too many good movies, especially a lot of the 30s/40s stuff. A lot of it got "cranked out" but by professionals and some of it was quite good anyway.

  8. The Haunting is good.

Otherwise, I see we have absolutely nothing in common except Benny Goodman.

But I'd still like to be considered a friend of Paco.

  9. More than 6 bucks for a burger? I don't think so. And a LIVER burger at that? Not just no, but HELL now.

C'mon, Richard, let's go find us an In And Out (on your coast) or a 5Guys (on this coast).

BTW, I know someone who ate ketchup on bananas.

  12. Have a 5 Guys (IF that is what you type of) that opened in Pigeon Forge, lady. Haven't been in yet, one assumes from what you intimated, that they do good work.

    Will have to stop in.

Ketchup on bananas?? What ever blows their skirt up, I guess.

  13. El Cid: It's great stuff. Be sure to order fries (but get the regular-size; the first time I ate at a Five Guys, I ordered the large size, and it was the only time in my life that I was unable to finish an order of fries).

  16. Minicapt ... Just got the remastered dvd of Naughty Nymphs. I don't want to say this German comedy is spicy, but Sybil Danning plays the virgin.

5 Guys will be visited quite soon.

Heck, I'll even endure the traffic between G'burg and P.F. with that recommend. Thanks.
