Baseball great Duke Snider has died at age 84.
I recommend his memoir, The Duke of Flatbush, a fine inside look at baseball in general and the Brooklyn Dodgers in particular.

"There are countless horrible things happening all over the world and horrible people prospering, but we must never allow them to disturb our equanimity or deflect us from our sacred duty to sabotage and annoy them whenever possible." -Auberon Waugh
Yes, sigh, I saw that yesterday.
ReplyDeleteNot many of the carryover/transfers from Brooklyn to Los Angeles left.
A young Yojimbo would go to bed at night and turn the newly invented small portable radio down very very low and listen to Vin Scully and Jerry Doggett call every game.
Things like this really hit home.
Very very few of the old great announcers left. Scully, I think, is the last.
Just sad beyond words.
