Speaking of hard boiled private dicks, Paco, have you seen Joe Gores' Spade and Archer? The guy's got Hammet nailed, I'm really enjoying the book. Ordinarily I am not a fan - in fact generally very hostile to - attempts by modern authors to appropriate classic characters, but Gores got it right.
That reminded me of a certain other, fedora-wearing private eye.
