Hewitt and Steyn

Here’s another transcript from the Hewitt/Steyn dialogues that take place more or less weekly on Hugh Hewitt’s radio program. As usual, this one covers a wide range of issues, including the increasing absurdity of Democratic campaign rhetoric:
Mark Steyn: “Harry Reid, you know, just a couple of months ago, was saying oh, no, the Republicans are going to decimate the federally-subsidized Cowboy Poetry Festival. Now, we’ve moved beyond that to a land where cowboy poets are going to be raped and murdered by the thousands because of those Republicans. So I don’t know, at this rate of ratcheting up, I don’t know where the rhetoric’s going to be in a couple of months beyond this. Nobody believes any of this stuff.”
Sounds like an interesting exercise! I invite readers to provide specimens of likely Democrat vituperation, obloquy and hyperbole (pronounced “hyperbowl”, if you’re an Australian prime minister) in the comments section. What do you think they’ll be saying as we get closer to the probable demise of their hero’s political career?

  1. "Cute puppies will be blended into protein milkshakes by the tens of thousands in elementary schoolyards across the nation by Republicans! Not only will the horrified students be forced to watch (at the point of bayonets, no less), they'll have to fork over cash money for one of those puppy milkshakes."

  2. I expect any Christmas now the Republicastapo will be raiding the Cowboys' Christmas Ball in order to squelch all that rightwing, redneck two-stepping and square-dancing subversion of the public order.

Incidentally, both sets of my grandparents were long-time semi-pioneer residents of Anson TX, ca 1911, and though they were old-time southern Democrats, they must be spinning in their graves to see what has become of their party and their country. I hope this Halloween they rise up in Celtic tradition and do some major spirit-smiting (old-time Jewish peddlar ancestors invited to join in).

  3. "The Republicans want to fire the gay awareness teachers and take away all mention of bestiality in elementary school classrooms.

If that happens, where will we get the next generation of democrat voters?"

  4. Mass starvation looms. Teachers will have to eat their textbooks, no wait, teachers will have to eat their students.

Hungry masses will stalk the land, only to find that the oceans have taken it all back as part of nature's wrath against Rethuglican evil, eeeeevil!

Crazed rabble will gather in the public spaces of our cities, unable to bathe or think, just knowing its all so unfair...

Swimming for their lives as the ice-caps melt...

That's already happening Bruce, and they are all Democrats.

  7. Yes Michael, here overseas too (copycats). I got a thrill from imagining a great cleansing Deluge washing them all away, actually. If only.

  8. I would like to extend an opportunity to Minicapt (whose profile is most admirable, but does not include a contact email) and any other interested parties to cut and paste for future use, or to memorize, the html command for making links, as it is very simple once learned. Contact me through Paco, if he will be so kind.

  9. I was quite pleased months ago, when the issue of Cowboy poetry came up to discover a whole new movement of poetry that I had never heard of before.

It seems to be broadly similar to the bush poetry movement in Australia.

It's heartening to make such discoveries: it's a reminder that it doesn't take much to have a poetry/artistic movement: just groups of friends willing to get together in a semi-regular fashion.

Lots of people have a vested interest in having arts festivals, big public events and the like, but these are hardly ever where the living, beating heart of the arts and culture is to be found. They're mostly an expensive distraction.

  10. "Those raped and murdered cowboy poets will soon rise, rise in their thousands, to exact vengeance on those who oppress us, the 99%. As they rise from the grave, at first they will stumble, yes, they will stumble and moan, and try to eat each other's brains, but it will only take one man, one perfectly creased pants man, to form a perfect unity, to lead the Burning Man out of the desert of the great state of Nevada, and into the homes and schools of our dangerous enemies, those who would live their lives without government assistance."

  13. Since Rick Perry reminds me of the President in "The Dead Zone" I assume he only wants the office so he can start a global nuclear war...
