Jamie Weinstein of The Daily Caller interviews the extraordinarily enterprising free-lance journalist Shane Smith about his documentary on North Korean labor camps located in Russia (video and photos here).
Another international scandal involving the violation of human rights that, unfortunately, will probably not attract much attention. But for those who are wide awake, it is a testimony, not only to the continuing diabolical madness of North Korea’s cult of personality, but to the lingering perfidy of the Russian government.

Don't they call this "rendition" in some polite circles. I'm sure that Hollywood will make another film by the same name sometime real soon.
ReplyDeleteAny day now...
ReplyDeleteRussia is supposed to be a "civilized" nation, but that part of the world has a long standing "tradition" of human right abuses. So this isn't surprising. And unsurprising for the Norks as well, just for different reasons.
ReplyDeleteBut it won't be covered in any media outlet even close to the main stream. The general state of civilization on this tired planet is declining every day, and outright slavery is becoming the norm, not the exception.
Um... Russia was never a "civilized" nation. It went from a feudal monarchy to anarchy to communism, all of which (of a piece, actually) collapsed into a kind of wannabe democracy, which has lapsed back into a dictatorship (i.e., feudal monarchy, without the royalty). Maybe the surviving Russians have had enough of a taste of Western civilization to want more of it, but as they are a declining people, that remains to be seen.
ReplyDeleteThe real danger is the increasing Islamization of the Muslim republics that were part of the Soviet sphere. Russian Orthodox Christianity is no longer a bulwark, having been undermined by the corruption of communism.
Still. Nothing in this world is certain.
Rebecca, according to the lefties, Russia (or the Soviet Union, in other days) was the epitome of civilization. I've never thought so myself, but I've known people who do.
ReplyDeleteSorry....next time, I'll insert the /sarc tags as need be.
