"There are countless horrible things happening all over the world and horrible people prospering, but we must never allow them to disturb our equanimity or deflect us from our sacred duty to sabotage and annoy them whenever possible." -Auberon Waugh
Interesting. I see precisely zero black faces in the audience/dancers. Early 50s?
ReplyDeleteI think the clip is from a movie, and the scene is supposed to be from a high school dance. If the setting is in some small town in Kansas or Texas or someplace, it's not surprising that everyone in the audience would be white.
ReplyDeleteCould be from the 40s as well. That whole era featured a number of clubs in Harlem which catered to mostly white audiences and featuring all black talent. That's where most of your big entertainers of that era got their start,
ReplyDeleteAccording to this, we may actually be witnessing Alan Freed inventing the concept of Rock and Roll in this clip.
