Marines make a splash

I'm frankly having a hard time getting worked up over the Marines who took a leak on some Taliban corpses. If it's absolutely necessary to "do something", I think Rep. Allen West has the right idea.

  1. Yep. Article 15 their dumb asses and move on. To coin a phrase.

  2. I'm annoyed that they urinated on them - why aren't they issued with pouches of pig's blood to pour over the Taliban?

  3. I basically agree with Mojo and missred. They shouldn't have done it they should be punished.

Before anymore Service or country approbrium is raised I'll need some more info to get the proper context. Yes, I know I'm slow.

Perhaps some video and pictures of Daniel Pearl, those contractors hanged from that bridge in Iraq, those planes urinating jet fuel on the Twin Towers and Pentagon, that hole in the ground in Pennsylvania, women being stoned to death for being raped, little boys being sexually assaulted by their uncles, little girls being mutillated at a young age.

Maybe then it will rise to the level of the Marine Barracks in Lebanon. I think not. Not in my name.

  4. The punishment should be applied because they put the video on YouTube.

    Cheers

  6. Every time colonel West opens his mouth I respect him even more. He's got both boots on the ground, that's for sure. Why isn't he running for President? Oh well, maybe next time.

Oh, and @ Jonah: That makes two of us!

  7. Well said, Yojimbo.

And Minicapt is right, the Marines were dumb asses for taking the video in the first place, let alone posting it on YouTube.

  8. As a follow on thought....

I realize that the situations are different, but I just can't help wondering how it's bad to piss on dead Taliban, while it's OK to Piss Christ.

  9. Ironically, it probably had a positive effect (for us) on the locals, of seeing the Taliban not only beaten but humiliated.

Against that, this was a classic case of conduct prejudicial to good order and discipline, bad not judgment not just on the part of the Marines and their camera-schmoe, but their squad lead (guaranteed he's not not a sergeant anymore) and their platoon sergeant and platoon leader, depending on what actions they took.

But this IS a company-grade punishment situation. Watching the WH and SecDef crawl in front of the cameras for it is just nonsensical.

  10. Hard to disagree with West.

And, yes, I'll worry about this sort of conduct just as soon as the hypocritical Left begins complaining about insults to Christians.

  11. I'm completely indifferent. When some news organizations start crying and moaning over the VICTIMS of the Taliban, I'd be more impressed.
