First in war, first in peace, first in the hearts of his countrymen

Wednesday is George Washington's birthday, and David Boaz has written a short, but splendid, tribute. I particularly like this bit:
Give the last word to Washington’s great adversary, King George III. The king asked his American painter, Benjamin West, what Washington would do after winning independence. West replied, “They say he will return to his farm.”

“If he does that,” the incredulous monarch said, “he will be the greatest man in the world.”

Newt content warning.

Speaking of George Washington, Newt went into history professor mode in his speech at last years NRA annual meeting, and talked about Washington's role in the Revolution, and the importance of the 2nd Amendment. The truly Newt averse can stop at the 14:30 mark, when he goes into more of a campaign speech. And if you hate him so much you won't even watch any of the video....well, excuse me.
