Powerline brings us the inspiring story of boxer Billy Miske.
Daniel Knauf talks about his move from left to right, the modern Hollywood blacklist, and his debt to Andrew Breitbart (the post is far more enthralling than that; really, do read it). H/T: Hot Air.

I had quite a different take on that Billy Miske story. I didn't want to say too much over there since a grandson of his commented there as well.
ReplyDeleteThe athletic courage was indeed remarkable, but the rest really sucked. He didn't tell his wife for several years that he was dying until about a week before he died. And did he spend all his wad on that Christmas and leave his family destitute? That's what it sounded like anyway.
Why let his wife agonize for several years over something he couldn't do anything about? That's not the way I would have played it (probably), but I think I understand his point of view.
ReplyDeleteHe won, what was it, a couple of grand? That was a lot of money in those days, perhaps enough to pay off whatever debts he might have had. Maybe that's the best he could do for her. Guess we'll have to read the book to find out.
The really sad part? Today, his life could have been saved with a kidney transplant.
