And
ignorance, as Peter Wehner points out.
Obama, a former community organizer who is perhaps unaware of the finer points of the law, might want to acquaint himself with an obscure 19th century case, Marbury v. Madison, which established the doctrine of judicial review and grants federal courts the power to void acts of Congress that are in conflict with the Constitution. What Obama describes as “unprecedented” has, in fact, been done countless times since 1803.
So, what may we conclude from observing Obama's public display of pique and obtuseness?
I don’t know what the political effect of all this will be. But intellectually, this is the week where Barack Obama jumped the shark. In a deep, fundamental way, he is no longer a serious man. Nor an honest one. His public words are now purposefully bleached of truth. And that is a painful thing to have to say about an American president.
For a man touted as a "constitutional scholar" from day one, Obama never really was serious, nor was he ever honest. The people that he purposely dissed -- primarily the middle class -- knew this nearly from day one.
ReplyDeleteSo Mr. Wehner, while his words are true, is late to the party.
"I, Barack Obama, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God."
ReplyDeleteHe "jumped the shark" the day he said those words, without fealty.
Deborah Leigh said...With all due respect to Peter and JeffS, Obama is a serious man. He is and always has been dedicated to the Progressive agenda. Therefore he will use any means necessary to achieve it, as Saul Alinsky instructed. Let's not forget that Hillary interviewed Alinsky and wrote her dissertation about his views.
ReplyDeleterinardman is correct, but this not only applies to Obama. It must be like a Charlie Brown episode for those folks. Ba wahk wahk wahk.
Everything Obama says is directed at the base that he thinks will reelect him. Let us hope and pray that they aren't nearly as numerous as he thinks they are.
