When life hands you lemons...

...make hand-grenades out of them. Or something. Anyhow, Smitty makes the excellent point that, instead of endlessly picking over the SCOTUS decision and trying to figure out how Chief Justice Roberts was suddenly possessed by the ghost of Earl Warren, we'd all be better off channeling our anger and energy into something more productive - like bustin' a gut to get out the vote this November.

Outstanding advice. Let's go!

Yes, the Obama must go, along with his tax. OBAMATAX is not something he can avoid - make him wear it.

Unfortunately, as a Canadian, I cannot involve myself with US elections, I have to continue the fight up North.

I don't know, Robert. There are a lot of undocumented aliens from Mexico and other points south who somehow vote here in the U.S. Don't see why the right kind of Canadians should be excluded.

For various reasons, BOTH sides decided not to say "tax" in arguments. Apparently, as Chief Justice Roberts was [reluctantly] about to declare it unconstitutional, he noticed the tax rabbit in the mandate hat - and used the hat-rack to KO the ever-expanding use of "Commerce" and "Necessary" clauses scope.

And as a tax, the Republican-majority House can throw it out without needing more than a simple majority. Not likely perhaps, but possible.

Romney has apologised for his role in "Romneycare," admitting he had not paid enough attention to its contents. BHO is congenitally incapable of an apology, especially since he (and the likes of Nancy "Pass it before reading it" Pelosi and Harry "Not only does the Buck not stop here, I don't know what one is" Reid) did not know what was in it.

Undocumented aliens on the electoral roll?

This...er... takes some coming to terms with.

If all those from way down south fo the border are voting, well, you may as well Put All Canadians On too!

In other news of Constitutional overreach from Nancy Pelosi (constitutional super-genius) : "House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi urged President Barack Obama to avoid a new debt-ceiling showdown by stating that a statutory borrowing limit is inconsistent with Section 4 of the 14th Amendment, which states that "the validity of the public debt of the United States ... shall not be questioned."

No mention of Article 1 section 8 which delegates to Congress the power to borrow money. Also note the ellipsis in the above quote where the phrase "authorized by law" would be.

So under this guise, the president could unilaterally create trillions of dollars of debt but a) wouldn't an overall overwhelming amount of debt cause a questioning of the debt and b) wouldn't debt not authorized by Congress (Geithner bucks) cause a questioning of the debt? Could a President Paco announce that "the validity of the public debt of the United States shall not be questioned so the federal budget will be cut in half and balanced starting today. Because the Constitution means whatever I want it to mean, right?"

Yglesias then explains another theory to avoid accountability "Secretary Geithner can mint a $2 trillion platinum coin, give it to the Federal Reserve, and then use that deposit as the backing to finance government operations."

We're doomed.

Anyone else here old enough to remember Burma Shave signs?

I have a place to put up some Burma Shave-type political signs, along my property. I've been working on some ideas for the messages, but if there's anyone here with a poetic streak, feel free to share your ideas. Who knows, you could become famous. There's five lines, with the second & fourth usually rhyming, tho that's not always necessary. The fifth line will be "Vote Romney".

Here's an example:

Obama's a twit
That we know
But come November
Out he'll go
Vote Romney

I know you guys can do better, so fire up your idea machine.

Paco, how are you faring after the storm that went across half the continent?

For that matter, how about everyone else? From the news reports, it was a doozy.

From this, I'd say that the Paco Command Post in Occupied Northern Virginia is operating on emergency power, and no connectivity.

Stay safe, Paco Family! And cool -- hopefully you have plenty of beer on ice......

Deborah Leigh said...The SCOTUS decision generated a money bomb for Romney, but people don't understand that they have to do more than send money. They have to get engaged.

That being said, there are fears. One being that the Republicans will squander the opportunity, and the other that Romney won't follow through on the repeal. Now, he can't do it on day one, like he said, but will he do it. Well, I'll take the bet that he'll keep his promise, because another four years of Obama is too frightening.
