Symbols of real hope, real change

While Russians are busy ripping Lenin statues a new one, the Poles have honored two of history's most effective anti-communists with a statue of Pope John Paul II and President Ronald Reagan.

When it comes to genuine statesmen and great leaders, I can't help feeling as if we're living among Lilliputians these days.

Quite so.
There are only two people in Australia who are happy with Jooolya leading the government: Kevin Rudd and Gough Whitlam. She has relieved them both of the title Worst Prime Minister Since Federation.

Actually, the only statue to Obama will probably appear in some postage-stamp-sized park near The Loop in Chicago (similar to Cincinnati's Fountain Square which features... well... a fountain), or perhaps on a concrete island on some off-the-beaten boulevard in Honolulu. But I wouldn't take bets on this.

I mean, where are the statues celebrating Jimmy Carter?

remember this? February 2010
statue of President Barack Obama as a 10-year-old boy has been removed from an Indonesian park and moved to a nearby elementary school that Obama once attended, the Jakarta Globe reports.
The decision to take down the 43-inch statue, which was erected in December, came after more than 57,000 people joined a Facebook page calling for it to be removed and replaced by a memorial to an Indonesian. It was removed Sunday night.

Plenty of dogs in the Loop, Rebecca. And it would save wear and tear on so many fire hydrants!
