It’s bad enough that we’ve got so many illegal aliens pouring across our southern border

But now we’ve got to worry about Russian submarines in the neighborhood?
Proving to the world that they are still a major military player, allegedly a Russian submarine quietly patrolled the Gulf of Mexico unnoticed by the U.S. military. The stealthy nuclear–powered sub, armed with cruise missiles quietly traversed U.S. waters for weeks highlighting a potential flaw in America’s security.

Further, the possible overt military action calls into question the so-called “friendly” relationship President Obama believes he shares with a re-elected Russian President Vladimir Putin. At a March Nuclear Security Summit Obama was caught on a hot mike telling former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev “after my election, I’ll have more flexibility.”
A friend of mine, who has contacts in Russia, tells me he's hearing that the Obama administration may well have known about the sub, but didn’t want to draw attention to its presence because it would have been a political embarrassment.

Maybe this might also get people to wondering just how “flexible” Obama plans to be in his dealings with Putin.

I'm pretty sure “flexible” means "bend over backwards", in this case. Demonstrating Obama's rubber spine foreign policy.

Disgusting. But, once again, not surprising. The Current Occupant's flexible spine may bend both ways (over backwards to accommodate one, forwards to kiss the ring of another), but it's still yellow.

SOP would be to put an attack sub on it's butt and a destroyer group up top, pinging like mad. Force it to the surface.

Mr. H was in Army psyops for a few years (and I also did some minor work while overseas), so we are not surprised or unduly alarmed by this. This kind of surveillance by unfriendly governments has gone on for decades (if not centuries), and it is often very hard to detect, whatever the method.

That said, the Russian government of today (that is, Putin's new dictatorship) has absolutely no respect for the Obama administration, and probably not for our present capabilities either. But we're not in imminent danger unless Putin decides he can make a deal with an economically imploding China. Which probably would take a little longer than the less-than-three-months we have until the very uncertain presidential election.

America still rules. So far.

Rebecca is right, I think. Putin is flexing his muscles, and peeing on America's collective foot. It's a morale builder for the Russian military, which is barely above Third World status. They aren't in much shape to start any kind of war, let alone sustain one.

But Putin is building towards that end. The former Soviet Union's war fighting abilities stemmed from being huge and ponderous, depending much on inertia and massive attacks for success. Technically and logistically, they weren't in good shape. They lived and breathed Stalin's comment "Quantity has a certain quality of its own." The heir of the USSR, the Russian Federation, went downhill from there.

That's what Putin is trying to achieve, a modern, First World military, better than the USA. When he has it, and China is somehow nullified, war will start somewhere in the area of interest for the Russian Federation.

Which is why it's crazy to let him get away with anything. Putin is growing bolder with each provocation, while Obama is ham stringing our military for his electoral gains.

If there ever was a case for treason by a sitting President, it's Obama.

My vote still goes to Clinton for traitor "honors".

There's so many holes in this story, holes made by hole makers to make holes in other holemakers holes, that I choose to believe that Blofeld, working for a Russian double agent against his former employers Iranian front company's punk rock indie record label, signed Melky Cabrera knowing his drug use would provide a cover allowing Israel to attack Iran.

Jonah: Sounds plausible.

Not too long ago there was a supposed joint test of the defenses in San Diego, because it has a large Navy installation. The Russian sub was headed for the harbor. A lower level operator detected and reported the sub.

I hope it was a joint exercise. But I didn't know that we left them get into our waters. Obama will never learn not to trust them. Of course, his vision is different than mine, and he didn't live thru the Cuban Missle Crisis at Ground Zero (Norfolk, VA).

He'll make Russian submariners eligible for food stamps and offer them work permits?
