Not as long as there are deer roaming my neighborhood
They have a point about water scarcity, but a lot of that can be and is dealt with using better irrigation and water recycling methods in agriculture.
But a bigger problem is the transport of food. Many Third World nations don't have a modern distribution network. And they have a bigger issue of corrupt or incompetent governments not developing their infrastructure the way it should be. The recent, massive power outages in India are due more to indifference than anything else.
Improve local agriculture and transportation, and you'll get a better crop yield that can be distributed much more readily. This approach ain't gonna happen, because the local governments are more interested in maintaining their air conditioning than the roads. They'd rather get a handout from the UN, subsidized by developed nations, from which they can skim a cut for themselves.
At the same time, it would help if our own government stopped screwing with agriculture here in the USA, and allow the farmers to grow food without paying homage to the EPA, Fish & Wild Service, and every greenie NGO.
It is the Guardian so their assumption is that if there isn't enough water in Ethiopia or Mali then people in places where there is enough water for livestock will have to go vegetarian.
Any other option like people with a decent sized yard keeping a couple pigs etc to make their own supply of bacon is completely inconceivable.
They'll have to take away my bacon from my cold dead hands.
If it comes to that and we are living in a post-apocalyptic thunderdome then if I have to dress some pigs up in dog costumes, walk them on a leash, teach them to fetch and call them Spot and Woof then I will. I'll do it for bacon.
