Supposedly the wife of the chief surgeon, jealous of his carousing. Explains a lot of the otherwise odd things about the case. Of course back then no one would have dreamed that 'the gentle sex' were so capable, and an upstanding society lady too!
The wombs were removed surgically. She could not have children, she did want any other woman to have his. She had surgeon skills. Self-preservation as a motive even.
