"There are countless horrible things happening all over the world and horrible people prospering, but we must never allow them to disturb our equanimity or deflect us from our sacred duty to sabotage and annoy them whenever possible." -Auberon Waugh
I've read that Swedes are very proud that they were neutral in WWII. My experience with the young Swedish I met, smug and hubristic, confirms their reputation for arrogance and assumed superiority.
ReplyDeleteIn Jack Landon's Call of the Wild, 2 men and a woman called Mercedes represent hubris. It is grimly satisfying when he describes their sled falling into the melting ice in mid lake, after being strongly warned against the crossing, thinking they knew better...
Vikings? Svenska?
ReplyDeleteYou mean Norska, my friend. All the squareheads ever did was take a cut of the returning booty. And argue with the Finns, but the Finns argue with everybody.
I'm currently finishing up the third book of a trilogy by Stieg Larsson (the first in the series is The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo). These books are primarily mysteries, but they give an insight into Swedish jurisprudence, society, and attitude that is simply astonishing to this American. It's no wonder Islam is taking them over, and I can't say it's much of a loss.
ReplyDeleteP.S. The other thing I took away from the books is that Swedes live on coffee, light beer, sandwiches, and cigarettes, they stay up all night and sleep half the day, they mate like rabbits but never have children, and the majority of them are older than fifty.
ReplyDeletePat Condel on a good rant there.
