The world falls apart

It definitely seems to be getting uglier, more violent and more senseless. For example, the shooting today at that school in Newtown Connecticut. We pray for the souls of the dead, and ask that God may comfort their families.

Update: Right on time: "NYC Mayor Bloomberg slams Obama on guns".

Update II: Better ban knives, too.

All prayers for the lost, and for those who must cope. May God bless and comfort everyone

"If he didn't have a gun, they wouldn't be dead."

"If he wasn't insane, they wouldn't be dead."

Did the gun make him insane?

Or was he insane, and used a gun in an insane act?

This is so very, very sad for the affected families. I can't imagine what it would be like to lose a child, especially that way, nor do I ever want to. They're all in my prayers.

They say he was autistic. I'm trained to work with autism. They said he killed his mother and then the children and teachers at the school where she taught. Sounds like autistic jealousy. Every case of autism is different, but often normal human emotional development is frozen at a very early stage, not more than the normal 2 year old. They become very attached to the primary care-giver, and extremely, sometimes violently jealous, of anyone who interrupts the attention they crave from the carer.

R-man, don't destroy their narrative with reasoned responses. Their heads might explode.

They had this on at the home all day. Some Fox ex-FBI "expert" kept using the phrase "automatic weapons". I wanted to reach into the tv and strangle the guy.

Read the above and it may help to get some context for this.

Oh and 'autism advocates' are in deep deep denial. We need to move beyond the whole Hollywood 'Rainman' myth. Some (not all) people with Autism can be very very dangerous: It is difficult to judge who will be so, and parents and carers - often first victims - are not sufficiently objective to be able to predict future behaviours.

Instead of making guns illegal, perhaps Obama could go straight to the heart of the matter & declare murder to be illegal.

With all due respect, uglier compared to where and when?

Jonah: I was speaking very broadly, and referring not only to what appears to be an increase in more lurid crimes, but the breakdown of civility and respect for life and human dignity in general. Mass murders, flash mobs, "knockout games", a predatory government more concerned with restricting the rights and reducing the independence and wealth of the citizenry than sticking to the few things it (theoretically) does well, etc., etc.

Paco, I'm not convinced there is anything the government can do well. It used to be said that it could only make war and inflate the currency well. We haven't won a war since 1945, except the two against Saddam Hussein, which victories both turned to ashes in the mouth soon afterwards. As for inflation, the Fed has been churning out money for years to pay for most of Obama's deficit spending, and still can't get inflation up (yet). Since that is the only way, outside of outright repudiation, that they can retire those gigantic debts, by inflating them into insignificance like Weimar Germany, failing to get the inflation rate up to, oh, 25 percent per year or so it a real failure on Bernanke's part. Obumbler must be very displeased with him. If you can't trust the government to debauch the currency, what can you trust it to do?

As for mentally ill people carrying out mass murders, how about we abandon this liberal and libertarian fantasy that insanity is an "alternative lifestyle," a notion that led to deinstitutionalization of mentally ill people forty some years ago? Find ways to identify dangerous or potentially dangerous mentally ill people and get them into some kind of supervised medical care before they go off the deep end. Instead, we are leaving them on the street to endanger themselves and others, while liberals use the resulting tragedies to curtail everybody else's liberty, at the same time doing nothing to improve the condition of the mentally sick people.

I gather that the murderer at Newtown did not buy his guns. They belonged to his mother, and he stole them.

Cue applause from the Left. Thankfully she left the bolt actions, revolvers, long rifles, knives, fertilizer, and rocks.

Yeah, DiFi never met a gun she didn't want to grab. Including that snubbie she keeps in her purse.
