“Liberia's education minister says she finds it hard to believe that not a single candidate passed this year's university admission exam.”
At least they have entrance exams over there. In the states, for many state colleges and universities, if you’ve got a high school diploma, you’re pretty much in.

My mediocre midwestern university used to admit just about anybody, because they had almost an entire department dedicated to remedial English and math classes. Then they realized that their fail rate was making them look really bad, and they tightened up standards and did away with the remedials. If you haven't got it by the time you get to college, you don't belong in college.

ReplyDeleteOf course. With the fine job our high schools do, turning out world-class graduates, entrance exams would seem to be pointless. /sarc
More importantly, the University of Liberia has standards, which are enforced.
ReplyDeleteCheers
