Quite by accident, I came across these clips about a Kiwi in the French Foreign Legion. Interesting stuff.

"There are countless horrible things happening all over the world and horrible people prospering, but we must never allow them to disturb our equanimity or deflect us from our sacred duty to sabotage and annoy them whenever possible." -Auberon Waugh
When I worked at the District Court I found the FFL website and bookmarked it. Whenever I was bored or disenchanted I would go there and idly peruse the site. And learn lots of interesting things about the Legion.
ReplyDeleteFor example, it is not required that one speak French on enlistment. They assume that you will pick it up. Seems reasonable - I'm fairly certain that Drill Sergeant beats Esperanto as a universal language.
Also if you think you need a new identity the Legion's intel people will evaluate your situation, and if they agree will develop one for you. Pretty neat, huh?
At some point it became obvious to me that this interest in the FFL was yet another indicator that I was not cut out for a career in the Federal Courts. So I went back to DoD. What the heck, I already speak 'Murican and my current identity, tatty though it may be, still serves.
Kiwi soldiers are sensitive and cultured persons, with exquisite tastes, etc ...
