"There are countless horrible things happening all over the world and horrible people prospering, but we must never allow them to disturb our equanimity or deflect us from our sacred duty to sabotage and annoy them whenever possible." -Auberon Waugh
Folk complain of Australian snakes, sharks, jellyfish, octopodes and various lethal spiders without mentioning ants; found in the Tasmanian bush (and suburbs) is the Jack Jumper (Myrmecia pilosula): these satanic insects kill more people in Tasmania each year (from the resultant anaphylaxis, usually) than snakes, spiders, jellyfish and sharks combined.
ReplyDeleteOut in the bush on Saturday I found a hidden ant's nest on a wooded slope, taller than me - over 6 foot high and about the same at the base. Biggest I've seen.
ReplyDeleteBut these are peaceful ants, not jumpers fortunately. I've always been terrified of Blue-Ringed Octopusses.
How about some stinging trees?

"severe stinging can last for months"
Character? I dunno.
ReplyDeleteNow that's funny right there.
