Logrolling. Lynch's confirmation was the quid for the pro quo of voting on a bill the GOPers wanted that prohibited spending Federal money on abortions. Such language is standard, and the Dems of the committee had reported the bill out without objecting, but then the Dems threatened to filibuster the bill.
ReplyDeleteSo the GOP got its prohibition on abortion funding with Federal dollars, the Dems got Lynch confirmed, and the Constitution got the shaft.
