The Dorseys always have that fabulous trombone playing and everything breakneck yet unusually clear and precise in sound. With Artie Shaw they top my 1940s favourites list.
Ah, Artie Shaw! I love the sheer exuberance of Benny Goodman's playing, but no clarinetist could match the purity of Shaw's sound.
