I recently saw David Lean's 1946 version of Great Expectations and enjoyed it immensely. Direction, casting, performances, screenwriting, set design, everything is superbly done.

Even though sultry Jean Simmons played Estella, I think her performance was modeled on Vivien Leigh in Gone With the Wind. Lean is great in his unforgettable visual scenes and performances.

ReplyDeleteWonderful film.

They don't make them like this any more.
