Sunday funnies

Some people really like their French fries...

Brother Smitty has the latest Taiwanese animated video on Shrillary, and it is hilarious.

Penguins in a Danish zoo attempt to go over the wall (I love the title on the video: "Pengvinflugt")...

I'm not sure why this candidate in the New Hampshire primary isn't a Democrat super star on the national stage, since his platform pretty much captures the essence of the party's ideology: "Perennial candidate and performance artist Vermin Supreme also signed up at the secretary of state's office, wearing his signature rubber boot on his head. He's touting a plan to provide every American with a pony."

It was only a matter of time before global warm-mongers got around to studying kangaroo farts.

Good ones today, Paco, but the Hillary one is downright scary.

Possibly even creepier: she turned on the fake southern accent again in Memphis.

Someone needs to write 'Pandering Queen', sung to the tune 'Dancing Queen', for Queen Hillary's campaign theme song.

Ah the University of Wollongong, pronounced wool-un-gong. Interesting study apart from the "climate change" tag. Wollongong is a pretty place, with maybe echoes of Big Sur and your West Coast. Used to have big steel industry but that's moved to Asia. There's a beautiful abbey there: http://www.jamberooabbey.org.au/

"So, everybody understand the plan? I distract the guards while you guys make a break for it. There's a getaway car just outside the wall, engine running.
Any questions? No? Okay then.
Good luck, my brothers and Godspeed! Let's do this. Go! Go! Go! NOW!"

Words. It's so reminiscent of "Penguin Flight" but I see flugt means "escape". I've been reading endlessly about Fluchtlinge in German news, meaning "refugees". Oh for the days when penguins fly, it's a charming image.

That McDonald's is spot on. Always order large if you're with someone. To paraphrase Lays potato chips, "You can't eat just one (bag)".

The Shillary video is gold. "Pengvinflugt" is funny by itself, but it gets better if you say it in your best Danish accent (sounds like Da Svedish chef). Re: New Hampshire candidate. The rubber boot was the perfect topper for someone with the name of Vermin Supreme. I would have liked to see the look on the judge's face who granted him that moniker.

Kangaroo farts? All we need is jumping cows. Would make roundup entertaining. I'll have to look into a sweatshirt from the University of Wollongong. It's up there with Gonzaga.

"Flugt" does indeed mean 'escape' in Danish, but it also means 'to fly', usually describing flocks of birds flying. (Fugleflugt) The title is a clever little wordgame on that. (Whether it's conscious or not.)

The Danish National Anthem uses the word "fly" a lot, describing how the enemies in panicky desperation shout to each other "run away" as the Danish fleet and armies makes hamburger out them. (No, really, "The King hammered his sword so hard that the Goth's helmets and brains got crushed. 'Flee! Flee whomever who can', they shouted!")

It's the same word and meaning you Anglophone's use. To Flee - run away. A flight - something that that flies. Fly - well, to fly.
The root of the word is simply "To fly like birds do." Like the Danish word for refugee. We say "flygtninge". In the root it means "someone who has flown away." (Like a bird, that is. The word is at least a millennium older than the Wright brothers.)

Sorry if this got a little long. But I find things like this fascinating. English and Danish are both (among with many others) Germanic language's and we actually have quite a few words in common. - Yeah, I know, I can be the dork sometimes. :-)

I also find this fascinating, thanks Mikael.
