I look about the current political scene and profess myself baffled - although, admittedly, highly amused. Donald Trump's feud with Fox News is more momentous than his rivalry with the other Republican candidates; Hillary the Inevitable is looking more like Hillary the Collapsing Souffle; an extraordinary number of people apparently are infatuated with this "new" doctrine called "socialism", and think that a guy who looks like Walter Brennan's grandmother makes a perfect standard bearer; the conservative wing takes a break from fighting the GOP establishment to rend itself asunder; Barack Obama - first half-black president, lightworker and alleged smartest man in any room - is relegated to page 6 of the Metro section.
I haven't seen anything this strange in all my born days. I do believe my personal strategy is sound, however: just keep stocking up on food, firearms and ammo.

ReplyDelete... just keep stocking up on food, firearms and ammo.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget booze, reading material, and toilet paper.
At least every candidate is getting pretty full scrutiny this time. We know the worst we can expect from them. They thought Obama would bring peace and prosperity but now they see they need someone more focused on real problems like jobs.
ReplyDeletePeople in the anglo-world are getting really carried away with imagining some sort of sudden decline in Europe and Germany ("Imploding" imagines The Federalist). My son's working there and my wife just got back from 6 weeks travelling right through, all the places in Germany she used to live 30-40 years ago. Everyone there is talking about the 'fluchtling' problem, even more than in Australia. Public debate covers everything, much more than in Australia where Muslims seems to be more powerful and are shouting down any public discussion. Muslims in Germany are much better behaved than in Australia generally. We cannot ban them from anything or even fight back, as shown by our leaders cowing in the Cronulla riots 10 years ago and even now. Muslim bomb threats were made against all Sydney schools today, and also in Europe I've heard. Germany and France are coping better than we are, it's time to look to our own backyards, if it's not too late.
ReplyDeleteThat's distressing to read, Bruce, as I had hoped the Aussies would be survivors in the coming Chaos in The Anglosphere.
ReplyDeleteI find my head shaking more these days. The obsession with Megyn Kelly's new look, especially her hair, is baffling. Guess we don't have bigger things to deal with.

ReplyDeleteThings will right themselves eventually ... after a fashion. Nothing ever stays the same.
ReplyDeleteBob the Germans are better off than Aussies because they've had a relationship with the Turks for over a century and the Turks are better citizens than the Russians, Gypsies and Balkan refugees that Germans have always had to deal with. Meanhwile one of Australia's biggest migrant groups has always been 'Lebanese' Arabic speakers.
ReplyDeleteAt first most of these were Christian, but in the 1980s we started to admit whole tribes of Muslim extremeist because Labor leader Paul Keating wanted their votes. They've had 30 years to establish a Muslim extremist network, especially here in Sydney. They've been preying on Aussie "skip" girls for all that time. Yet compared to our "bogans", the "Lebs' seem more cultured, so people accept them. None of this is new.
From our British perspective there's been chaos in the Anglosphere since Singapore fell in 1942. Americans brought a respite after that, for which we were grateful. Outside the old British Empire I'm not convinced there is an anglo-spehere any more. I've been a fan of Mark Steyn since almost 2001 but I think he has no idea about France and Germany.
In some ways I believe that Germany is the best nation in the world right now, except Merkel has to quit, which is slowly happening. Germany has solved all the work problems which lead Americans to support Trump and Sanders: Germany doesn't allow cheap imports, shopping malls or megamarts, or the monetarisation of people's homes and lives. They respect privacy and tradition. Of course my son complains about high taxes and expensive meals and clothes, but to keep tradition you have to forego easy temptations and shortcuts.
Thank you for the information and insight - food for thought.
ReplyDeleteI actually withdrew my family from what was a bit of a "no go area" (white flight I guess) in Sydney ruled by Lebanese thugs, 20 years ago. One reason was I didn't want my daughter to marry one! Because girls find them attractive when they're not being abused by them. Now she's found a nice anglo guy, I'm happy. This was before 9/11 and we didn't make the connection with islam back then. Meanwhile I also know a Lebanese Christian who's one of Australia's richest people, and another one who's Egyptian Christian. They work harder than a lot of Ausssies. We're really deep in this thing. Thanks for listening Bob.
ReplyDeleteBruce, what are "skip" girls?
ReplyDeleteOT. Sorry for the double post. I thought it the original hadn't gone through.
Skippy kangaroo: old Aussies. We had an apartment in a gentrifying area but near the southwestern Lebanese zone which was then ruled by drug dealers. Local high school kids would talk outside my window, "You don't fall in love with a Skip, man. You try yourself out on them and then you marry a Leb!" the Skafs took that very seriously:

In fact my daughter's school friend fell in love with a "Leb" who threw his previous girlfriend off a 5 storey balcony in a garbage bag: alive until she hit the ground. It was in all the papers here. So glad I got my daughter out of there. Stupid girl held his hand in court.
Correction, 15 floors:

Bruce, thanks for the lingo lesson. Now, what is a Skafs? Sorry to hear that there are girls with broken compasses in Oz. Hope she gets it fixed after he is locked up for life. Oz doesn't have the death penalty, right? Thankfully you were able to get your family away.
